He’s provocative, gets in your face sometimes but one thing is certain about David Grossman – he’s not afraid to tell it like it is. A guru on the high school, university and college scene, Grossman has been calling the shots on the High School Show since the station started – and that’s a long time ago... His new show is not just about school teams as Grossman dwells on the issues, uncovers the controversies and pin points the ups and downs of a demanding and very competitive sports scene that is developing the professional and international athletes of tomorrow. When the big stories happen, Grossman can be entertaining with his bubbly personality but he gets the truth – and that can sometimes hurt. Sunday mornings will never be the same.
David Grossman is an award-winning sports journalist and had a 30-year career with the Toronto Star, Canada's largest newspaper, before retiring from the paper in December 2010. He is well known for getting the story behind the story in the exciting and often controversial side of amateur sports in the Greater Toronto Area.
Nineteen years ago, Grossman started a high school radio sports show on this station. It was the only one of its kind in Canada and Sportsnet Radio FAN 590 continues to be the place to turn to year after year for the highlights, the issues as well as the ups and downs of the school, university, college and grassroots sports scene.
You can also catch his witty and very opinionated commentary on High School Sports Zone – a weekly high school sports show on Rogers TV.
While David has an extensive background in the media, having worked for many print and electronic media in a career spanning some three decades, he also spent 25 years in public and corporate relations within the private and public sectors holding down senior positions as Director of Communications for Toronto's Humber College as well as working on special assignments with eight Ontario Government Ministries.
Among his special memories were three major projects - and for three different Premiers. There was Ontario's recognition of the Toronto Blue Jays winning back-to-back World Series titles, then providing many disadvantaged children with a glimpse of Mickey Mouse with a special Walt Disney World show in Toronto and his role as a Communications Advisor for the 1988 Economic Summit.
The winner of an Ontario Government Sports Citation and nominated by the Women’s Foundation of America for reporting about females in amateur sport, David is controversial, but fair. He gets the facts, even when they may be embarrassing for others. He strongly believes that academics and athletics go hand-in-hand and is known for his outstanding career in promoting school sports.
