Martino was one of the co-founders of the Great Lakes Football League in 1993. The league grew from three to seven teams over a three-year period and eventually became the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). Martino continues to be the head coach of the Huronia Stallions now in the OVFLÂ’s seventh year. Although he has not won a championship in the OVFL, he has been able to continually provide a competitive program out of the City of Barrie, which is considered to be a small market centre by league standards.
Martino has successfully balanced his responsibilities as a coach and administrator by growing a successful minor program in Barrie and continually promoting the OVFL. He was an assistant coach for the gold medal winning Team Canada in 2000 and has continually supported Vanier Cup venues such as ‘Test to be the Best’.
Martino played three years in the CFL with Hamilton and OttawaÂ…is a child therapist, and enjoys gardening. |
