THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE OV REFLECTS ON YEAR 1

The Newmarket Young Bucs have just completed their first year in the OVFL. The program, formerly of the OFC, evolved a year ago after the Bucs took over the Newmarket Storm, thus unifying the football community in the city. As with most new franchises, let alone one new to the OVFL, there were challenges but some promising developments, including the performance of their bantam team who came within a tie break of the playoffs. Their numbers were good and coaches in place so the future looks bright for the Bucs! Lets see what team Exec Frank Ciraco had to say about year 1

The Bucs have been around for a long time prior to joining the OVFL. What were your impressions of the league prior to joining?:

The league with the most teams, will have the majority of the best players. You can’t dispute that.  You know you’re in a dogfight every week.

Did knowing you would be playing in the OVFL as the single representative for the Newmarket region help your player turnout.

It did especially at the Varsity level. We have a very good house league program that feeds the Bantam level. We were seeing that at JV and Varsity, players were curious about the OVFL.. That was splitting the talent. Merging with the Storm made that choice easier.

Were there any surprises you or your players noticed now that you have a year in the OVFL under your belt?

You have to play your best every week. You can’t take anything for granted. Whether it be at the player or coaching level.

Would you change anything going into next year?

The recruiting will definitely start earlier. The organization will be out there knocking on doors and talking to players and coaches to join our program

What was the best thing you experienced as a member of the OVFL this year?

Renewing some old rivalries that we see in COMFL..

How did the level of play in the OVFL impress you?

A. As I mentioned earlier you have to play your best every week. It also tells us that we have ways to go to catch up to some of the power houses. The first step was merging with the Storm. The players know they have one choice to make in the Newmarket Aurora area.

Any other comments about year !

Make sure to have all you paperwork done properly!. Would like to see 3 down at Varsity level!!!!
